Our open letter to 10 Downing Street

As a UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) innovative start up, Map Impact fully support the activities of UKGBC as a representative voice, and we’re proud to be a signatory of their open letter to the Prime Minister.

We see the Government’s decision to delay policies such as mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain as unwelcome, although not surprising with the mounting number of environmental and climate-related U-turns announced in recent weeks. The apparently politically motivated timing for these decisions undermines the key programme of interventions that The Environment Act was to introduce via targeted activities to reverse the decline in nature.

Such interventions are still urgently required and, as a member of UKGBC, we remain committed to supporting its activities around ensuring that development approaches and methods evolve in ways that are sustainable, and ensure that biodiversity plans remain at the heart of permitted building developments.  Whichever political party is elected to govern is irrelevant – the need to respect and protect nature remains high priority……unjustified delay is a sign of weakness.
